Coburn, Casey

This collection consists of newspaper clippings and copies of clippings from the Lawrence Eagle Tribune.  They document Casey Coburn’s career as a journalist from 1968 to 1972.  She covered educational issues with occasional articles of human interest.  She also wrote a weekly column called The Weekly Reader.  Topics covered were Greater Lawrence schools, autism, dyslexia, local higher education, Irish topics, local politics, and Marine Corps honeymoons.  One article May 29, 1972 (folder 4) about the Oliver School has a hand written note on it that reads: “B.C.-I thought this was an excellent job.  Bill Ferg.”

Bernadine “Casey” Coburn was born in 1935 in Lawrence, Mass.  She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953 and received a BLS and MS from Boston University 1984.  She worked as a journalist at the Lawrence Eagle Tribune from 1968 to 1973 and the Boston Globe 1973-1975.  She was responsible for public relations at Bentley College, Boston University, Boston University Medical School, Bradford College, and Merrimack College at different times.  She now teaches at Women in Transition (WIT) a prerelease facility in Salisbury, Mass.  She married Andrew Coburn, a journalist and author, in 1955 and they reside in Andover, Mass.  Mr. Coburn’s collection is also among the holdings the Lawrence Public Library.
