Riverside School (Lawrence, MA)

riversideThe Riverside School was a wood frame building that was built in 1875. It was located at the corner of Doyle and School Streets (2 School Street). It ceased to be a school in 1954 and was torn down sometime later. I believe the Van Doorne Park is there now.

  1. I went to that school in the first grade, 1953. I remember the wooden interior, and hanging our winter clothes on big hooks. I still have my class pictures. I also remember the bell ringing to call us in from recess, and the penny-candy store on the corner. I used to walk there from Hancock Street, and the hill and cobblestone sections of the road. I transferred to the Essex Street school from there.
