Holy Rosary School (Lawrence, MA)

Holy Rosary Church, a solidly Italian parish, invited the Venerini Sisters to come and educate the children of the parish in 1909. They started the school in the basement of the church. The cornerstone was laid for the new school in 1917. The school, located on Summer Street, opened in 1919 with a basement, an auditorium, and fourteen classrooms. It was designed with a Venetian palace in mind. The Sisters of Notre Dame took over the running of the school. The operation of the school ceased in 1990’s. The building was considered for a public school at one time, but is now abandoned. The image shown is the building as it stand today. No photo has yet been found of the school when it was a school.
