Callahan Waterway (Lawrence, MA)

callahanThe Callahan Waterway is the inlet that leads from the Merrimack River to the North Canal. The plaque welded to a small boulder is located in a grassy area just north of the Merrimack River on Broadway on the southbound side. The Callahan of this memorial is Andy Callahan who had the sobriquet of the “Toy Bulldog” of Lawrence. He was once the New England Welter and Middleweight boxing champion. In the US Army he was Pvt. Callahan and was killed in Action in Italy in 1943.
