Lawrence High School Band (Lawrence, MA)

New (April 2010) acquistion!

In the spring of 1925, The Lawrence High School Advisory Board voted $2500 to purchase instruments and upkeep for a Lawrence High School Band.  Fifty members practiced all summer giving its initial September 29th performance in the cafeteria to the students.  The band became a fixture of every football game uniformed in black shoes, white duck trousers, blue sweaters, each monogrammed with a blue “LHSB” in a white triangle, and blue trimmed white sailor hats.  Mr. Sault was the director and Gunnar Holstrom, ’26, was the drum major.  The band won a 1st prize May 22, 1926 at the 2nd annual New England School Band and orchestra Festival in Boston.

Thirty-seven years later the band reunited at Memorial stadium.
