Excelsiors

socongchurchThere is one composition book measuring 24 x 19 cm.  It covers the minutes of a women’s church club called the Excelsiors from September 21, 1929 to April 24, 1933.

The Excelsior class was a woman’s group associated with the South Lawrence Congregational Church.  It was primarily social, but included fund raising for various causes (aid to the poor) and decoration of the church.  The women met monthly and planned outings, plays, bridal showers, and other events.  Every meeting was opened with a prayer.  The first year’s worth of meetings written by Jessie McLean are very tongue and cheek and end each entry with a humorous epitaph.
