Women’s Club (Lawrence, MA)

women'sclubThe Library owns programs for the club that includes year of 1912-1930. The Lawrence Women’s Club was formed in 1892 with the objective of promoting general intelligence and culture. Emily Wetherbee, teacher and poet, was the first president. It was admitted to a national federation in 1893. This group of women was interested in civic reform in their community including education, youth activities, housing conditions, changing technology, and conservation. The club sponsored an annual art exhibit at the Lawrence Public Library from 1921 through 1932. The last year the club is listed in the Lawrence city directories was 1935.
