Workers Cooperative Union (Lawrence, MA)

wcuThe Library owns one broadside measures 16 x 28 cm.

The Workers’ Cooperative Union appears to have started as the Workers’ Cooperative Market in or around 1921 at 36 Short Street.  Sometime in the 20s it moved to 104-112 Newbury Street and changed its name often including “Bakery and Dairy.”   From the broadside it appears that their location was called Cooperative Hall.  And from everything the researcher could find this group was a purely local cooperative meant to help the union families pay for food.  The last year (1941) Concetto Ventura was president and Michael Marchesa was Treasurer and Manager
